The Jeep Wrangler stands out from other mid-size SUVs for its trail-tested capability in any configuration, and that includes the entry-level Wrangler Sport. The base Wrangler is outfitted with four-wheel drive, high- and low-range gearing, and skid plates. It also has an impressive 9.7 inches of ground clearance for navigating rocky terrain.
The Wrangler Rubicon takes that capability even further with a suite of features that optimize it for all-terrain driving, including an available Xtreme Recon Package with 35-inch tires. The Rubicon is a mid-level offering, so it comes with a higher starting price than the Sport.

As you start comparing the base Jeep Wrangler vs. Rubicon trim level, the price difference is likely the first thing you’ll notice. The 2-door Wrangler Sport starts at $29,995, the most accessible price in the lineup. A 4-door version is available for a starting price of $34,045.
Jump up to the Rubicon, and the starting price for 2-door models rises to $42,395 MSRP. 4-door versions of the Rubicon start at $46,195. The Rubicon’s specialized all-terrain equipment allows it to traverse terrain that not even the Wrangler Sport can handle, and as we mentioned up top, it can be upgraded even further with the Xtreme Recon package.
Both Wranglers have a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine under the hood, but the reasons for the Rubicon’s enhanced performance lie elsewhere: locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tires, heavy-duty Fox shock absorbers, and rock sliders. The Wrangler Sport cannot be equipped with these features or the Xtreme Recon Package, which includes:
